Alma Escondida (Hidden Soul) is Sofía Carrasco's first project bringing together her work as both a composer and visual artist. Through a series of original compositions alongside drawings and paintings, she explores themes of identity, memory, spirituality, and the search for meaning through artistic practice.
The project is inspired in part by Tunantada, the traditional music and dance festival from Jauja in Junín, Peru. Rather than documenting the celebration, the works reflect Sofía's personal experience of its music, dance, rituals, masks, and the emotional and spiritual questions they evoke. The title refers to the idea that our deepest sense of self remains partly hidden, and that creating art becomes a way of approaching and understanding it.
The visual works accompanying Danza I and Danza II focus on the physical and spiritual dimensions of dance, exploring movement, trance, and the connection between the body and inner experience. The drawings created for ¿Dónde Está Mi Alma Escondida? (Where Is My Hidden Soul?) and Vida Pasajera (Temporary Life) reflect on the Andean landscape, the masks, the people, and the rituals of Tunantada, as well as themes of melancholy, memory, and humanity's relationship with nature.
