Artist Statement

My work comes from a fascination with the human in states of heightened emotion: facial expression, bodily movement, tension, and release. I am interested in how we identify ourselves racially and socially, how we connect with others, and how our bodies and roles change over time.

My visual practice is grounded more in drawing for its directness. I am drawn to the immediacy of line and shape, and to the range of expression that can emerge from simple marks.

I am interested in the relationship between sound and movement. I write and perform music that complements the visual work. Sound and image influence one another through shared qualities such as rhythm, pacing, and intensity.
